Unglued

I have been reading the book "Unglued" by Lysa TerKeurst.

It's a phenomenal book full of practical advice on how to make rational choices to keep yourself intact when life and the enemy are fighting to make you lose it.

As pressures mount today begging me to come "unglued" I am going to remember what I just learned and put it into practice. One thing that has really helped me is a first person, present tense use of 1 Peter 5:6-8.
It sounds like this,
"In this moment I'm choosing to be self controlled and alert. Your actions are begging me to yell and lose control. But I realize I have an enemy, and it's not you. The devil is prowling and roaring and looking to devour me with my own lack of self control, but I am God's girl. That's right, I am. I am going to quietly and humbly let God have His way in me. And when I do, He will lift me and my frayed nerves from this situation and fill me with a much better reaction than what I can give you right now. Give me a few minutes and then we will calmly talk about this." ~Lysa TerKeurst
Awesome, no? Man oh man has this changed my dealings with my kids especially. When the building blocks of a serious moment of icky, yelly, angry Mommy start piling up I remember that I have a conscious choice in whether or not I come apart. Instead I can choose to read this little snippet to myself or out loud and remain put together. The reminder at the last part is for a few minutes to get quiet and pray before reacting. The Lord will always guide your words and relationships better than you can do on your own.

So if you find yourself in an "unglued" situation today, stop, read, and pray. That's my plan. I know I will slip up and fail, but like Lysa says, "Imperfect progress is better than no progress at all." Isn't grace lovely?

    1. I am almost done with it. You can borrow mine if you like! I also have "Grace for the Good Girl" that I promised to lend you. I will bring them both with me to Church on Sunday if you are going to be around!
