Time

Time does not always affect things the same way.  The rules of it are not set in stone.

There are some things, some situations that time does not touch. The minute you pick them up again they are just the same as when you put them down.

This is no more true than in situations of hurt and the heart. You see, I am a stuffer. I don't deal with emotions of hurt and loss. I stuff them deeply inside and move on with normal life. The flaw with stuffing is that one day something will spark a memory and a feeling and that awful emotion will come on again with a vengeance.

For me it doesn't matter how long ago I stuffed that emotion, when it is ripped from hiding it feels just like it happened yesterday. The anger, sadness, and hurt are fresh feeling. An open wound. Time has done nothing to dull it or take away the ache.

They same time heals all wounds, but I have a couple that it doesn't feel like it's even touching. I thought after a decade had passed that the feelings around this should have changed. But it's just not happening. I seem to be stuck there.

The problem with being stuck in a feeling is that you can't be fully invested in your present. I am being robbed of being a fully functioning Mom and Wife because of a hurt that I never put closure on.

So I guess my question is, how do I go back and fix the feelings that haven't faded and how do I keep myself from stuffing new ones? Do any of my friendly bloggy friends suffer from this issue too? How do you live with past bags hanging around your neck?
