Everyday I use Facebook I find another reason to not use Facebook anymore.
The most important reason, I think, that it's no good for me is the mental health factor. Almost everyday at least one person posts about having the stomach bug or some sort of puke related nonsense. That sends me into an anxiety spiral almost everyday. Totally bogus. People have the right to post whatever they like I am not trying to change anyone here, I just can't handle it.
Reason two of about a thousand is the fact that it allows me to mentally check out. I am finding myself when getting overwhelmed or irritated with the happenings at my house turning on the computer and just tuning out for some FB time. This is not healthy. And to be completely honest it's getting to be more frequent. I've gone from having a moderately large tolerance level to having one that is nearly nonexistent. More and more I turn to the comfort of other people's lives and issues rather than facing my own.
Next up is the time it takes up. Seriously here, my house used to be an organized place. Part of this is the addition of extra children, and that would be a great excuse to lean on instead of admitting the truth. The truth is I shirk my household responsibilities to hang out on FB and talk to friends. This is something I am super not proud of. Keeping the house and tending to family is my job. It is the job I chose. I should give it 100% of me. And I am certainly not doing that.
I think the straw that broke the camel's back with this is the privacy issues. Before the "ticker" was introduced you had a modicum of control over who saw your likes and posts. Now everyone can see everything that you do on FB in their handy dandy ticker. I think this is massively irritating and a gross invasion of my privacy. Don't get me wrong I am who I am and I have nothing to hide from anyone, but I see no need for my every move to be visible to all of my "friends".
Facebook has the unique quality to make and break friendships quickly. The more that technology like this rises the more that human interaction is no longer necessary. I am now "friends" with whole bunch of people that I wouldn't know very well if not for this social network, which is a blessing. And the fact that I can laugh and joke with friends and family scattered all over the world is a fantastic thing. However, it is a breeding ground for conflict and drama. It's very easy to type something out from behind the comfort of your computer and start something that if you had been face to face you never would have had the guts to say. Words can be taken the wrong way, out of context, because the human intonation and feelings behind it can't be read on a screen.
In conclusion here I have to say that I have tried breaking myself off of FB before and failed miserably. It is a hard habit to break. And there are it's good qualities. I am just trying so hard to find a way to keep the good and limit the bad as much as possible. I really think it has to start with a serious soul searching.

I agree with you on this post. Facebook is such a bitter sweet experience. I LOVE being able to stay connected to (and having reconnected with) many friends, especially since we don't live near any family right now. On the other hand, it's such a waste of time, and I do get caught up in the drama in my head and want to poke my nose where it doesn't belong. I want to delete it just like you, but then I think of all the people I would no longer be connected to, and I don't delete it. I take breaks every now and then, and that's as far as I go. Sigh...
