Jason and I have been stressed about Christmas. This is probably happening in many houses this time of year. Where are we going to get the money to get gifts for our kids? How are we going to make sure that they are not disappointed on Christmas morning? We are making ends meet, but barely and don't have extra for all of these things.
Then I see a picture. On the book face of all places. That changed my whole perspective. Why, oh why, are we stressed out about a leap pad when there are children with no clothes, food, medicine, clean water, or homes? These things are the things that we should be concerned with. What gift should we give to celebrate Jesus' Birthday? Ones that heap on the gluttony of America or ones that save the lives of His children.
So this year there will be three gifts of love for my three gifts from above. Then there will be three envelopes. In each one it will tell the story of where their Christmas money was sent. It will tell what child it gave water to. It will tell about a child their own age who now has enough food to eat because they didn't get an extra ten gifts.
My prayer for this is that my children are empathetic enough to understand that this was a necessary act of love and not a punishment. I pray that in each of their hearts a love of helping is born.
Please consider this as we come into this season of over the top, that there are people, children, who are fighting to even stay on the bottom and need our help. We have the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ.
