August 16, 2012

Yesterday was pure chaos.

First thing in the morning I headed out to the store with my three beautiful children. We had to run to the pharmacy to grab some of my new meds and while we were there we were going to pick up some other things. You  know, the usual Target trip. I get to Target and realize that I have A) No money and B) No debit card. CRAP. Thank God for the checkbook buried deep in my hand bag. (And no it's NOT a purse, it's a HAND BAG.) Seriously though, who writes a check anymore?!

We arrive home to see that the Doc had called while I was out. So naturally I call back to hear the Doctor on the other end of the phone say, and I quote, "Your gallbladder is plain shot." What am I a used car?! I can just picture all of the surgeons in their greasy coveralls looking under my hood and quipping, "Well that part is shot might as well yank 'er outta there." Fabulous. So that sent me into some panic hell.

Then we had dinner. A lovely family dinner, where my entire family ate delicious food and I had a baked chicken breast with NOTHING on it. At least we were all together and chit chatting nicely about our day. Dinners with Daddy are rare and a thing to be cherished.

When Jack went to bed I knew he was going to have some trouble falling asleep. My anxiety was palpable for the children. He was wound. So I was not surprised that at 10 pm he was still up in his room ripping up small pieces of paper making confetti. (He is so awesome.) Anyways I decided to go in and lay with him for a little while. It's been a long time since I got to watch one of my babies fall asleep. As I laid there rubbing his leg and watching his little eye lids flutter and try to stay open, I realized that the chaos of the day was nothing compared to the joy of having a beautiful family. The very last thing that Jack saw on August 16th, 2012 was his Mommy's smiling face. After a few minutes of the fight his eye lids lost the battle and he fell asleep nose to nose with "Douglas" the penguin. I watched the two of them sleep peaceful and quiet for a couple of minutes and then headed to my own bed with a new sense of calm.

I thank God that He showed me the beauty in the moment. That He showed me the calm in the storm. I thank Him most of all for a sleeping little boy and his penguin.

This is Jack and Douglas in the playhouse being silly. :)
