I've been thinking today (uh oh) about legacies.
I began this train of thought after a woman passed whom I didn't know personally. I will tell you though that her passing has affected me. There were 15 posts on the book face at least celebrating the life of this woman. In each post it talked of her love for Jesus and her profound love for His children. After reading each one and learning of the impact she had on so many lives I just couldn't help but feel that I truly had missed out by not knowing her.
The question comes to my mind now, how do you become a woman who leaves that kind of legacy? How did she live her life to impact so many? I can tell you that it seems to have a lot to do with loving Jesus, loving people, and being a true friend.
Those three things are never wrong. They can only benefit you and the people around you. In daily struggles it can be easy to become narrowly focused on yourself and the small picture of now. I am going to take on the challenge of remembering the eternal in my daily life. Push myself to focus on the bigger picture. If I have a friend in need, I will help. If there is someone who is hurting, I will be a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on. In every opportunity I get I will praise the name of Jesus who saved me both eternally and right here on earth.
I hope that with His help I can accomplish these tasks and change my legacy. I pray that when I get to Heaven I will meet people that are there because God used me in their chain to Salvation. I hope that in this venture I can teach my children how to live a life of a strong woman who loves Jesus and spreads that love to all of His children. And that one day they will each teach their children. So that even after I pass my love for Christ will go on.
I never got the chance to meet this beautiful woman, but because she lived each day loving the Lord, she changed my life. To all of you who did know her and are grieving her death and celebrating her life, please know that I am praying for you. The loss of such a life can cause a deep hurt. I pray that the love she gave while she was alive will be enough to hold you until you meet with her again.
Thanks for this post, as I think of Esther today. She was a past mentor mom of mine. My Grandma is also one who left a HUGE legacy behind. I choose to teach my children about Jesus and love people for who they are.
