I mentioned this briefly in a post earlier this week. I kind of felt it deserved a little more effort and a post of it's own! I got this idea from a book called Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World and it is written by Joanna Weaver. It is a great read if you are looking for something to charge you up!
I have begun to challenge myself to make an hour of prayer and devotion a priority in planning my day. I think that when I do that I will feel more "connected". I was feeling a bit distant. Like maybe my prayers were bouncing off the ceiling. I was frustrated. I know I am not alone, most Christians have been here.
Then I stopped and asked myself, Have I been listening or just talking? Am I taking the time to read the word to seek answers? Most of the time, if we are being honest, I mumble a half hearted prayer and go about my business. I never took the time to bask in His presence. That is not what the King of Kings deserves from me.
We are supposed to give Him the best of what we have, the cream off of the top. For a Mother of three the best offering I can bring is time. That is my most precious gift. So I have decided to set aside an hour of my time for my Savior. Not just any old hour either. The hour before my children wake up. That hour I can use to sleep a little more, and if you are a Mother you know how precious a gift that is.
I will tell you though, it's worth it. Since I have been making this time a priority things are changing in my life. I feel more connected. I not only feel heard, but I also hear. That is immeasurable. To feel like the God of the universe is hearing me and taking the time out of HIS day for me is something so special. It would be to anyone, but it is especially to a girl who never felt good enough for anyone. Not to mention with three young kids the value of being heard! :)
So I challenge you.....To give Him an hour. Any hour will do. Meet with Him and then listen for what He is telling you.
