It took a long time for things to start to seem normal again.
It took a month before I could drop my kids off at school without crying in the garage for ten minutes afterward.
And now the effects still linger. Slithering in when you least expect them. Tonight I was in a class about financial peace and we were talking about life insurance. The subject of getting burial coverage for children came up and suddenly I couldn't breathe. I can't even think about those two things together.
I volunteer in the girls' classrooms and I find myself looking for places where they'd be safe.
I don't feel like I have a right to be upset, after all shouldn't all of the hurt and sadness be set aside for those directly affected? I just feel this sadness and ache deep in my heart. I want to protect them from everything.
I never want them to feel any pain, disappointment, or loss.
I know a lot of the world has pushed forward, but I seem to be stuck here for now. I am still praying everyday for the families of those children and adults lost in this tragedy, for the children and adults who will be forever scarred, and for my children and yours.
