Have you ever just found yourself in a perpetual state of depression?
Our house has been sick for a long time. Really. A long time. And we are not plagued with cancer or incurable diseases, just colds, flus, and things of the like. I have been taking care of people for so long that I am finding myself tired, weary, and sad.
There are times when things seem to be getting better and my spirits begin to rise. There are times when it seems that it's just never going to end and they drop right back down. I "just happened" (Holy Spirit) upon a sermon last night that encouraged me to raise my hands to God and say, "Lord I don't understand what you are doing here, but I trust you in your promises. I know you will work it out. And thank you for the opportunity." Boy that's hard.
Worrying and fear are a form of doubt. Doubting the promises our sovereign God has made to us in the Bible. He has promised that all things in this life He will use for good. He has promised that no matter where we go in this life He is walking with us holding us by the right hand. He has promised His Holy Spirit to guide us in every step of our path. Do you believe in these promises made? If you do and you have been, like me, dwelling in the fear it's time for us to turn and repent that doubt and ask forgiveness. Ask for His help to stay strong in our trust and our hope. Without hope the look for tomorrow is pretty bleak. In the midst of the storms of life hope is the life boat letting us know that it's all going to be all right in the end.
The depression comes when we don't trust. When we get caught in the darkness of life and lose sight of our ever present help and light.
So I encourage you, and I, today to seek Him. Trust steadfastly in His promises. And remember that with the morning comes JOY!
