Caretaker

I have taken care of everyone in this house for three days now. I must admit it seems SO much longer than that. I am tired. Sick people are grumpy and needy and I am running out of patience. If only I were running out of patients! HAHAHAHA! Man I am hilarious today! Of course none of these sickies have noticed my stand up comedy.

They have also not noticed the piles of laundry, or dishes that I have done. Noses I have wiped, vaporizers I have filled, and runs to the store for the "I NNNNNNEEEEEEEEDDDDD PUUUUUDDDDINGGG!!!!". Nope not a single one of them.

It would be super easy for me to get bitter. However, I know that there is Someone who notices even the smallest job I do. He told us in Matthew that whatever is done for our Brothers and Sisters it is as if it were done for Him. For me the last few days that was taking care of my family. Every nose I wiped and hug I gave was showing my family the love of Christ. Every run to the store for chemically enhanced pudding was as if I was buying that pudding for Christ.

He has made my heart soft. He has told me that the things I do matter, every minute of every day. Every dish and every sock washed. I do it to glorify my God. Thank you Lord for the heart of service you have installed in me. Thank you for the dirty laundry and the opportunity to serve my family.

Side note~ Thank you Lord for the snuggles. That was my reward. All four of my lovies, Hubby included, has needed me and hugged me. I got to kiss the warm hair of my baby while he was snuggled down on my chest. I got to hold my 6 year old for more than a minute! I got to see a red faced Bailey look up at me and sniffle, "Love you Mama", before she fell asleep. If these things aren't worth the running I don't know what is. Better than a paycheck any day of the week.

So my hope for you all who are feeling tired and used up is this, pray to Jesus to feel the joy in the work, the small rewards in the little things, and KNOW that everything you do for others has been done unto Him.

  1. amen sister! having been on the receiving end of this for five days straight, i can tell you how much i truly appreciate being taken care of, whole heartedly, by the hubs. i don't know what i'd do without him, especially when i'm sick. those warm cups of tea, soft tissues, and blanket tucks are all the sweeter when you don't feel well. keep up the good work mama - your kids will thank you for it some day! :)
