Ok really it's time to knock it off.
If you've read my blog or know me personally you know how I feel about the Mommy Wars. I think it's complete bunk. Totally ridiculous and COMPLETELY unnecessary. You raise your kids the way you like and I'll raise mine how I like. And in the mean time if we can lift each other up and help each other out that would be great.
For instance if you cloth diaper, awesome. I will support the makers of the disposable ones. Don't yell at me about how I'm ruining the earth. Don't stick your propaganda bull in my face. Just let me use the diapers I choose, it's not hard. If I breastfeed and you prefer to bottle feed we can still be friends. It's true! All we have to do is agree that the other is doing the best we can for our family and not try to win each other over to our side. And if we could refrain from putting down each other's choices that would be super.
If you know a Mom who looks like she's struggling, pray for her. Offer to help her out. Maybe invite her out for some time to talk about things that aren't child related (if you remember any!). But please, please don't tear her down. You know it's hard enough being a Mama without someone telling you what a crappy job you're doing.
Telling a Mommy she is dead wrong for her personal parenting choices is a cruddy move. It's mean and it borders on bullying. KNOCK IT OFF. So let's agree to call a truce and choose to love and lavish one another with grace and care.

I had a status very similar recently on my FB. I also HATE the Mommy Wars. I especially hate it when complete strangers feel the need to stop me in public places to distribute their two cents of "advice" about what they feel I'm doing wrong. It's very common for this to happen in Panama, especially with older matriarchs who are used to mandating their own families. These women mistakenly think that they're being helpful.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more with your article, by the way I love the picture you were using in the end of the post :)
