So last week stunk. Really truly awful. So my goal is to make this week better.
I have prayed on how to best move forward on this "Better Week Initiative". I have got some pretty clear answers and I thought if I shared them with you, perhaps your week(s) could be better too.
1. Do something everyday just to make someone else happy. Go out of your way just to make someone smile. It doesn't have to be elaborate, it can just be saying, "You look nice today." Or buying a cup of coffee. Trust me the blessing will not be all theirs. It feels great to make someone smile.
2. Get into the Word of God. Everyday. No excuses. No days off.
3. Pray. For everything. From your to do list to what's for dinner, to what is laying heavy on your heart. He cares for your details and if you include Him you will draw closer.
4. Hug your kids or someone else's. Nothing makes your heart melt from the hardening of life than the two armed tight hug of a child. When my two year old charmer grabs me tight around the neck I can't help but to smile.
5. Say something nice about yourself, and then (and this is the kicker) BELIEVE it!
6. Trust that the best possible outcome of something will happen. This is a toughie for me because I am a worrier always preparing myself for the worst case scenario, but I have found that when you believe good things will happen they usually do. Even if they don't you have been happier along the way.
7. Eat a fancy schmancy dinner with your family. Dress in your finest clothes and break out the best serving dishes and table cloths and dine together as if you are royalty. Even if it is just cheese burgers and tater tots.
8. Have cheese burgers and tater tots. ;)
9. Do your chores, but when they are done reward yourself with some pampering. If you let the Lord create your to do list then you can be happy and content when you have done all that your two hands can do at the end of the day. So sit back and have a bubble bath or read a great book or watch reruns of Ally McBeal with Robert Downey Jr in them. You won't regret it.
10. Be thankful. For every little thing. Give thanks for the breath God gave you, for your home, your kids, the washer that just broke. Everything is an opportunity for you to give praise to the One who created you. Don't miss out on that.
I hope this little list will help us all to start having greater minutes, hours, days, and weeks. Feel free to leave me any suggestions you think we should add!
I'm printing this and putting it on my fridge. Thanks!
